Involved in mission work?
Missions Ministry

As a church body, we take seriously our responsibility to live out the church’s vision statement, especially the part about being “world-conscious.” Supporting local and global missions has always been very important in the life and mission of Abingdon Bible Church.

Mission Giving:

Our annual budget for missions is typically 15% of the overall church budget. This is a goal we've imposed on ourself in order to safeguard our emphasis on spreading the Gospel of Christ to every people, tongue, tribe and nation. We are excited that three of our currently supported missionaries were called out of our congregation into the mission field, and we are the sending church for two others. This is a testament to the grace of God at work and we are privileged to be usd by Him.

Short Term Missions:

We encourage short-term missions projects within our church and annually take trips both within the United States and abroad. Recent trips include Germany, Ecuador, Kenya, and Guatemala. We particularly encourage our high school youth to participate in the annual youth missions trip. Recent trips include inner city missional work in Indianapolis, a cross-cultural educational trip to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, etc. It is amazing to see the common theme of God's grace at work in different cultures and places.

Intern Program:

Another major effort in missions focus is our Intern Program. Abingdon Bible Church’s intern program began in 1993. Since that time, 24 interns have traveled through Abingdon.

Each year, we invite a family or one or two single people from abroad to spend a year with us. During this time, we provide them a place to stay and help educate them on American culture. Our goal is to help these interns gain an understanding of the American church culture, to help them learn to speak English well, and to mentor them in the field of church work and foreign missions. Most interns enter the mission field after their stay with us. This program blesses our congregation and also helps propel the ministry of each participant.

Many of the interns came from the Brake Bible School in Germany and have gone on to serve in areas throughout in the world.
